Figurative cutting out of house carving elements with a jigsaw. Master Class
From time immemorial, people have decorated their homes with house carvings. The talent of the Russian people and their inherent sense of beauty made it possible to create deeply original works that contributed to the rise and flourishing of the high art of folk architecture and house carving. But most importantly, protective symbolism has always been put into house carving. In our lesson we will cut a carved wooden element that signified Bereginya, the keeper of the hearth!
.
In today's lesson we will cut out elements of house carvings with a jigsaw. These elements can be used to decorate the pediment of the house, cornice, or porch.
Guided by the traditions of Russian wooden architecture, we are developing a pleasant image for the soul - a template.
Draw the template onto the prepared board.
Using a wood drill (drill) of the required diameter, drill holes inside the design.
When using a jigsaw, observing safety precautions, it is advisable to wear safety glasses.
To cut out the figure I use a T244D file. For clean cutting, it is advisable to disable the pendulum sawing mode on the jigsaw.
Before sawing, the workpiece must be securely fixed with a clamp.
When cutting, you need to be careful, try not to “drive” into the corners of the drawing and not make sharp turns. It is advisable to make round places and holes in the drawing with a milling cutter or a feather drill.
We have two overlays for house carvings; if desired, they can be trimmed, sanded, and varnished. A house decorated with such fragments looks wonderful!
Anyone who knows how to hold a cutter in their hands can trim elements at the ends so that there is not just a cut thread, but also a flat-relief thread.
I wish you creative success.

Necessary materials
For such delicate and accurate work you will need a good jigsaw. If you decide to speed up the process and use a jigsaw, then be prepared for the fact that it can handle radii up to 2.5 cm. Small parts will have to be completed with hand tools. The saw must be mounted firmly to prevent vibration, which will lead to uneven cuts.
It is better to do artistic cutting with a jigsaw according to drawings, drawings and descriptions on plywood from 3 mm to 5 mm. This is the best option. It will not bend during operation. It’s better not to waste money and buy good quality plywood so that you don’t have problems with chips or knots found on it later.
Think in advance about how you will coat the product - varnish or paint. You will also need sandpaper (coarse and fine).
Sawing with a jigsaw
You can place an openwork shelf for keys in the hallway, a decorative vase in the living room, and a napkin holder on the dressing table in the bedroom.

Product cutting process
Particular attention should be paid to preparing the jigsaw. As already mentioned, it is better to start with the manual option. The price of such a tool and instructions for working with it are accessible to almost everyone. A couple of decades ago, such work was part of the compulsory labor training program for boys in schools.
Initially, you should properly secure the cutting blade. The teeth of the blade should only point down, towards the handle. First, one of the edges of the blade is securely clamped, after which the second end of the jigsaw is slightly compressed by 10 - 15 mm and the opposite edge of the blade is fixed. There is no need to stretch it too much; the fabric may burst during operation.
Important: the canvas must be positioned strictly perpendicular to the plane of the sheet during operation. Skewing will not only lead to a crooked cut, but the blade may also break.
In order to select an internal cavity, you must first drill a hole into which you can insert a jigsaw blade, after which the internal contour is selected. Many people advise simply piercing thin sheets with an awl; this option is possible, but such a hole may cause a crack.
Often during work you have to cut out curved surfaces with internal sharp corners. There are instructions on how to make such a turn carefully. Having reached the extreme point, you need to continue vertical movements with the tool, gradually turning it to the desired angle. The second option is to simply pre-drill small holes at the turning points.

How to choose blades?
The quality of crafts made by hand with a jigsaw and ease of use primarily depend on the blades. Most often, any owner has this power tool and uses it only when it is necessary to make an even cut or a beautiful pattern.
A jigsaw is used for cutting wood or plywood, as well as plastic or metal, so you should pay special attention to the choice of blades.
The device is usually sold complete with a set of blades intended for use on different surfaces.
